Growing for the Better

Growing to better your future can be a lot of work but is worth it in the end.  I have grown just from being at Iowa State for one semester.  I found that there were two classes that helped me out in making me more responsible, better organized, and helping me not to procrastinate.  The best one of all is the Hixson class.  I have learned better ways to keep track with my finances by using a mobile app on my phone called mint.  The class also shows me how to make everything look nice and professional so it could give me a slight edge on the competition.  I have stopped sleeping in class now which was a real problem for me to start college off.

The Hixson Award

The Hixson Award means a lot too many people.  The award was one of the reasons I even came to Iowa State University.  It is also a symbol of hope in a way for kids who need help paying for college to keep trying and not give up.  I appreciated the fact I was picked because it is nice to know there is someone who cares enough to help me further my education.  It is probably one of the best award and scholarship I will ever receive.  The only thing left to say is thank you Christina Hixson and everyone else for giving me the chance.

Only a Theory

I went to a lecture called "Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America’s Soul” for my diversity event.  It was a little different than I expected because it was a gut named Kenneth R. Miller talking about his book.  The lecture was held on Monday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Sun Room.

Miller is a winner of the 2011 Stephen Jay Gould Prize.  He talked about the differences and conflicts between religion and science.  I was actually kind of interesting to me because I knew of some of the stuff he was talking about.  He also talked a little about advanced cell structures which made me realize why I hate biology.
